LCHF Purpose

Since 2001, Lennar Charitable Housing Foundation ("LCHF") - a tax-exempt, nonprofit 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation - has been, and will continue to be, highly influential in bettering communities by providing ongoing support to charities that serve the homeless, transitionally homeless — men, women and children forced to live on the streets or  substandard housing as a result of  unfortunate  circumstances such as    domestic violence, unemployment, crisis pregnancies and catastrophic illness to name a few — and working, low-income, families and individuals.

LCHF has truly fashioned a legacy of hope for those individuals who would otherwise experience hopelessness.  LCHF does not believe in giving a hand-out, but rather a hand-up.

The National Coalition for the Homeless reports that "nearly 61 percent of local and state homeless coalitions say they have seen a rise in homelessness since the outset of the foreclosure crisis in 2007, a problem that has gotten worse due to continued foreclosures, rising gas and food prices, and a tightening job market".*


Reuters reports that the unstable stock market has caused both corporations and wealthy individuals to curtail their charitable donations (corporations over 50%). "This is the worst fund-raising environment I have worked in my 25-plus-year career in fund raising for nonprofit organizations", said Jeff Towers, American Red Cross' Chief Fund Raiser.*


The Los Angeles Times reports that more families, including those that are considered middle and upper class, are seeking assistance from Los Angeles area food pantries in what those organizations say is an unprecedented surge in demand. Donations have not kept up with the demand and climbing food prices. "We're seeing an increase in people who never would have asked for help in the past", said SOVA Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles' Director, Joan Mithers.*Homeless Updates

Such a magnificent program is made possible with the help of homebuilders nationwide. Upon each escrow closing in a LCHF community, a fee totaling 1/20th of one percent of the gross sales price of the home is collected from the buyer on the original sale and on every subsequent resale.
