The Mission of Lennar Charitable Housing Foundation (LCHF) is…   to end homelessness by investing in shelter and supportive services benefiting vulnerable families and individuals.

East Bay Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity East Bay, an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, was founded in 1988 with a mission to create successful homeownership opportunities for families with limited incomes by building sustainable housing and revitalizing neighborhoods.  East Bay’s program provides affordable home ownership opportunities for first time buyers with low-incomes.

Habitat for Humanity East Bay has completed the construction of 181 single-family homes in Alameda and Contra Costa counties and has also funded the construction of more than 400 additional homes overseas.  In 2008, the affiliate will celebrate its 20th anniversary and the completion of its 200th home!

Habitat East Bay’s program provides affordable home ownership opportunities for low income first time buyers.  Families in the program invest hundreds of hours building their own home and the homes of their neighbors. In addition, they attend workshops on budgeting, credit repair, conflict resolution, landscaping, and home maintenance.

As a result of participating in the program, partner families are able to purchase an affordable home and acquire skills to help with their long-term success. With the support of LCHF, Habitat East Bay helps families gain economic stability, safety, and a foundation upon which to build a brighter future.

In February 2007, Habitat East Bay celebrated the completion of a 22-home development in Livermore. Projects currently underway include 26 homes in East Oakland, 8 homes in Alameda and 4 homes in Antioch.  The affiliate takes pride in building homes that are not only affordable, but also sustainable, built with “green” materials and methods like photovoltaic panels and engineered lumber.  The East Oakland development will contain homes that will be LEED certified.

Habitat for Humanity believes that people of all beliefs and from all walks of life can come together, pick up a hammer, and help others build a better life. Habitat's success is ultimately due to the hard work of many faithful and experienced volunteers, staff and supporters.
